Performance and exhibition in Istanbul
OUTSIDE-in was a group show presented by the gallery ALAN Istanbul and curated by Sinejan Kılıç. Considering the contemporary approach to street art and the aesthetics in-between, work was shown by 8 different artists coming from Turkey, Sweden, the US and Germany.
On the occasion of the opening we came to Istanbul to do a performance:
“Zu Gast Arbeit”
(translated: “To Guest Work”), 5th April 2012
Istanbul is one of the most exciting cities we have been to so far! Being from Berlin, we arrived there as guests. When you are new somewhere, unexpected things are part of the “plan”. In this performance, while we were sweeping pigments and sand through an alley, we left a lot of dust behind. Everytime you go somewhere you leave a trace behind and your life bears traces of that experience.
The performance is also reflecting last year´s 50th anniversary of Turkish guest workers in Germany. The two countries have been in touch since a long time, struggling to understand and accept each others differences. The necessary cultural exchange seems to be starting quite delayed, but it´s happening! With our performance we tried to contribute something to it.
